BOOK OVERVIEW   

All of the lakes and sections of river featured in the guidebooks are flat water. They all allow kayaking and canoeing and are accessible by two-wheel drive vehicles.  Each lake and section of river featured in the guidebook has a color photograph of the lake’s topography, along with a written description of the lake’s surrounding terrain. The books list the campground located at the lake (or the next nearest campground to the lake), its directions, camping facilities and reservation information. The books contains high quality, full-color photographs and detailed maps of lake destinations, campground  and  reservation  information.  They also contain Quick Reference Guide, Wildlife Briefs, Resources,  Small and Private Lakes, Top Twenty Lake List, kayak, white water, outrigger and canoe clubs in the United States, and the newly added Kayak Fishing section.

The pages on the CD's are linked up to the Contents, Indexes, Quick Reference Guide,  and Featured Lake Pages which allows you to easily navigate through the CD's to quickly find the information. 4The Poisonous Plants, Stinging Insects and First-Aid Safety section  discusses hazardous plants and insects and basic first-aid treatment for situation that can occur that you can encounter while paddling or camping.

 

4There is nothing worse than driving a long distance to a lake only to discover bad weather, or a forest fire. The Weather Condition section provides useful information on the different weather conditions and what you can do to increase your chance of survival if you encounter bad weather.

4Carrying the following safety gear in your boat should be a mandatory precaution, especially if you are a solo paddler. The Safety Tips section discusses extra precautions paddlers can take, that will help them avoid dangerous situations.

4 The Featured Lake Maps show the names of roads to use to reach the lake, which are cross-referenced with the lake and campground directions provided. They also depict where the campgrounds, boat launches, marinas and dams are located.

4Wildlife biologist ranger Ron Cummings wrote the section on "Wildlife Briefs which covers helpful information on wild animals you may encounter while camping or paddling.

4The Resources, Manufacturers Advertising Section and Kayak, Canoe, White Water, and Outrigger Club in the United States provides you with names, telephone numbers and addresses so that you can call or write to request brochures, detailed maps, or to find out the lake’s current rates for day use, launch, pet and camping fees. The list of club contacts are a good resource to assist you if you are planning a paddling excursion in another state, and would like to find out where some pristine destinations are to paddle.
