Paddle Notes: An outstanding paddling
adventure awaits you at Round Valley Reservoir. Paddlers can
enjoy a diversity of scenery and captivating views in a
harmonious mountain setting. The rich raw beauty of the
environment will etch itself in your memory for a lifetime.
The reservoir is easily accessible off of Highway 89 and is an
intriguing retreat for all levels of paddlers and anglers. The
restriction on swimming, jet and waterskiing reduces the
number of visitors to a small handful. The pleasant paddle
around the reservoir’s perimeter provides commanding views of
colorful mountains and foothills clothed with pines. Thick
stands of trees along the shoreline provide plenty of shady
pullout access locations to relax upon for a spell. NOTE:
Several areas of the reservoir had a growth of yellow algae
along the shore, which clung to the bottom of my boat when I
was here.
Reservoir Information:
Miles of Shoreline: 1 Acres: 350
Elevation: 4600’
Wind & Weather Conditions: The lullaby
of a gentle wind sighing in the pines throughout the day is
typical at Round Valley Reservoir. However, the afternoon
winds can become quite fierce. It is advisable to paddle close
to the shore if the wind picks up. At the crack of day in the
summertime, the brisk air temperature awakens your senses, but
when the air temperature soars into the high 80s and 90s by
midday, you’ll wish swimming was allowed. This area is subject
to snowfall in the winter and thunderstorms in the summer. The
rainy and snow season is from October to April.
